Program Descriptions

Please review the brief descriptions below to see which of our programs you might be interested in supporting :

  1. Job Shadowing Program
Our Job Shadowing Program provides participants with an opportunity to spend a full day or part of a day ( morning/afternoon) observing different roles and responsibilities in the workplace. Our Program, through the support of dedicated individuals, businesses and community organizations, gives participants a chance to dialogue with working people in occupational areas that are of personal interest to them. This on-the-job experience provides valuable insights for our participants and helps them formulate their career interests in developing their plans for the future.
  2. Speakers' Bureau
The Speakers' Bureau is a valuable resource of dedicated individuals in our community who are willing to share their experiences and insights with our youth. Speakers, from a variety of businesses and community organizations, have agreed to address young people, both in our community and in our schools on topics that are related to their personal career development and/or related to curriculum areas they are undertaking.
  3. Ask a Person with Experience Email Program
The "Ask a Person with Experience" E-mail Program is designed to maximize the potential of E-mail by connecting our youth, and the people who work with them, with interested individuals who are prepared to answer questions on their area of expertise.
  4. Work Placement Learning Programs
The Community Career Centre supports a variety of work placement learning programs: cooperative education, youth internship, Youth Services Canada, Linkages, Student Work and Service Program (SWASP) and others. These programs vary in their descriptions but all have a common focus upon placing young people in real work environments so they can explore occupational areas of personal interest. The duration of the work placement also varies and is determined in cooperation with interested employers.
